I can't resist my cravings and urges to binge. It's ruining my life! Help!

    I am a food addict (binge eater or whatever you call it) and my big thing has always been to do fast food drive throughs and eat like mental by myself in parking lots. I am talking about 3000 or 4000 calorie meals at a time and doing this more than once a day. I a trying to get under control but whenever I drive by fast food places I just crave so strong that I can't resist it. I have tried driving different routes but I just can't avoid all of them on my way back and forth to work and there is no way I can get to work on the us in my physical condition. How do I overcome these 'triggers' of mine when i can't avoid them and I can't resist them.

    You are dealing with an addiction that is every bit as powerful and dangerous as alcoholism, crack or heroin addiction. In some ways, it is worse, more difficult to overcome than the others. However, solving this problem and making your life healthy and happy is very possible if you work at it with the right tools.

    You need to learn more about food addiction and how to deal with it. Just "making up your mind" and using "will power" is not enough. People who say things like that are showing that they know nothing about the problem. With an addiction like yours, you are fighting a power greater than your will, and you need to acquire the know-how to beat it, and practice it until it becomes your habit.

    You are not alone. Many others have had the same problem and overcome it, becoming stronger and healthier than those who have never had it. However, realize than most average people know nothing about it. They may think they know it all, telling you how to solve it, as if they knew. If you listen to them, you'll be led astray and feel badly about yourself. Go to those who have had the problem and solved it and hear what they have to say.

    It will be work to solve this problem, but it will be worthwhile, and it will leave you better off than those who have never had it. Write again after you've followed all the leads I've given you. Best wishes.
