What's a good diet pill?

Are there any diet pills that are safe but effective to use. As I understand it much of what’s on the market is pretty much caffeine based, or maybe even some sort of speed. The last thing I need is to be more anxious and jittery than I already am, but if there was a safe and effective diet pill it would be a godsend to me. I am 22 years old, 5 foot 4 inches tall and 160 pounds. I try to eat healthy but I invariably fail and I eat a lot of junk food almost every day. If there was a pill that could reduce my appetite so my crvaings weren’t so hard to manage maybe I’d finally be able to lose weight.

William Anderson Says...

No, there are no safe and effective diet pills. However, the way to solve you're problem is known and it is effective, though its not as easy as taking a pill.

It sounds like you have a good healthy fear of quackery and drugs, and some good insights into the behavioral aspects of your problem. It's important that you approach this problem carefully and correctly, because going about it the wrong way is an invitation to some serious eating disorders, not just addiction and ill health from diet pills. It is believed that unhealthy dieting, over exercise and unbalanced focus on weight loss can result in very dangerous disorders like Bulimia Nervosa and Anorexia Nervosa.

Please get well educated on the subject before you begin on a weight loss regimen and be very careful about your sources of information. About 99% of what you read in popular literature like magazines and the Internet is unreliable and even dangerous. Even doctors' diet books can be full of misleading misinformation. Look for the credential R.D. (Registered Dietitian) when getting nutrition information, and look for LMHC, Licensed Psychologist, LCSW, LASAC or some other credential in Behavioral Medicine when getting information regarding behavior change, craving management and the addiction-like aspects of your problems with eating.

Read my articles answering some of the most common questions about weight loss, starting with the article about the common weight loss myths at http://theandersonmethod.com/category/weight-loss-myths/ There are articles at my website, http://TheAndersonMethod.com , about weight loss products, pills, and lots of valuable information. As I said, the way to succeed at weight loss is known and it is effective. My book, The Anderson Method, has a complete description of the successful behavioral weight loss approach that thousands of my clients and readers have used and that I teach to other therapists. The articles and info at my website are free for the taking, and my book can be obtained for under $10 at some online booksellers. You don't have to be rich to get what you need to succeed at weight loss.

At 22, you have a good chance of beating this problem the right way now and avoiding all the risk and torment of going at it the wrong way, like with diet pills and crazy diets. Best wishes, and if I can help further, please write again.
